Save the Children Humanitarian Assistance for Covid-19 Response supports the Ministry of Health to combat the pandemic.

Save the Children presents a consignment of Oxygen Therapy Equipment & Personal Protective Equipment to Ministry of Health to help combat the COVID-19 global pandemic.
Save the Children is a global leader in development and humanitarian programming, working for over 100 years as the pre-eminent voice for children with governments, civil society and private sector partners in 120 countries worldwide. In Sri Lanka, Save the Children was established in 1974, at the request of the government, to assist in their efforts to address issues faced by children in the country. We have been contributing to both humanitarian and development needs in Sri Lanka for over 45 years.
With the Covid-19 global pandemic, Save the Children shifted gears and focused on supporting the national governments worldwide to strengthen the Covid-19 response measures to combat this humanitarian crisis with an aim of protecting the rights of children and their families.
Save the Children Sri Lanka too extended its support to the Ministry of Health, to strengthen their commendable response to the pandemic in Sri Lanka.
Further to a request made by the Ministry of Health on urgent support with medical equipment for strengthening COVID treatment facilities, Save the Children is pleased to make this donation of Oxygen Therapy Equipment & Personal Protective Equipment worth LKR 18,535,000.00, for the distribution among general hospitals in critical districts. Accordingly, this donation includes:
- Oxygen Therapy Equipment: oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders and connectors.
- Personal Protective Equipment: disposable gloves and 3 ply surgical masks for health officials.
The ceremonious handover of the above was held on July 20, 2021 at the Ministry of Health by Save the Children’s National Director- Mr. Julian Chellappah, Director for Program & Operations- Ms. Ahila, Thillainathan and Director for Policy Advocacy & Research- Mr. Ranjan Weththasinghe.
From the Ministry of Health, Hon. (Mrs.) Pavithra Devi Wanniarachchi - Minister of Health, Additional Secretary (Public Health Services) - Dr. (Mrs.) T.L.C. Somatunga, and Secretary / Ministry of Health Dr. S.H. Munasinghe attended this event.
