Statement by: Hassan Noor Saadi, Regional Director Asia, Save the Children and Helen I'Anson, Country Director, Save the Children, Sri Lanka.
"Save the Children is deeply shocked and saddened by the recent attacks in Sri Lanka that led to the deaths of hundreds of people, including children. With many children still in hospital fighting for their lives, our prayers remain with them and their families. We stand in solidarity with all children and families in Sri Lanka, regardless of their background.
Worldwide, almost 420 million children are living in areas affected by conflicts that they played no part in creating. We must all work together to build a more peaceful future for them.
In May, Sri Lankans will mark 10 years since the end of the conflict. Save the Children will continue to work with the government to promote social cohesion and sustainable peace for all children and their families in Sri Lanka.”
