Safe and Quality Child Development Centers for Children in Nuwara Eliya

Children in Nuwara Eliya now safely spend quality time in upgraded Child Development Centers while their mothers are engaged in tea plucking. Eight Centers on tea estates refurbished by Save the Children through Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) was recently handed over to the community. Hosting around 800 children, the centers represent the importance of having a communal and safe space for mothers and children and also as learning centers for the mothers.

Race for Survival 2015 in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka marked Race for Survival on 30th of July in Nuwara Eliya with the participation of 900 students in eight schools where 75 students took part in the race representing those schools. Two children who addressed the event mentioned the importance of improvement nutrition status of children and also they made the other children aware about good food and health habits. The Zonal Education Director and other officials were present at the event. A line up of dramas and songs performed by children conveyed health and nutrition related messages.

An Integrated Approach for Quality Early Childhood Care and Development

Children of 10 Early Childhood Care and Development Centers (ECCD) in Matara in Southern province, Sri Lanka are now receiving quality education in the ECCD centers and at home. These children are benefitted by a project “Quality Early Childhood Care and Development in Matara District” funded by Porticus Asia and implemented by Save the Children.

Save the Children Hong Kong Joins Sri Lanka’s Ethical Tea Program

Save the Children Hong Kong recently became the first Save the Children Member to provide financial support to the Mother and Child Friendly Estates Ethical Tea Certification in Sri Lanka. This program is designed to make good nutrition good business in the tea industry.
